Cheap plans that don't feel like you gave up
The week before payday is not the week for a speech about mindful spending. It's the week you still want a plan and you don't want it to be “we can't.”
Put the cheap ideas in the jar on purpose: a picnic, a walk with no destination, board games, breakfast for dinner, the free day at the museum if your city has one. Turn on low budget mode and the pricey ones sit out. You didn't cancel the night. You changed the filter.
